Clontarf
Yacht & Boat Club:
Clontarf
Yacht & Boat Club is located along the coast road in Clontarf.
It was founded in 1875 and has had some very prominent past Commodores
and Presidents, Sir Arthur Guinness being one of the first. There
are several dinghy classes in the club, including Fireballs, IDRA
14's, GP14's, Mermaids, Mirrors and Optimists. There is also a large
Cruiser fleet with E-Boats, Kestrels and several other classes.
Racing is held on evenings and weekends throughout the Summer (May
- October). The club has hosted many National and International
regattas.
The
sailing area is tidal and racing can be held three hours before
and after High Water. The club boasts one of the most impressive
Rescue boat services in the Dublin Bay area - not that the Fireball
class requires them of course!! An adult training course is held
every year in June and this provides an excellent introduction for
anyone who is interested in learning how to sail.
One
of the great advantages of sailing in CY&BC is that the fixed
starting line for the club races is only a 30 Second sail from the
slip. The starting guns are run in a 3 minute sequence, and this
means that races are underway very quickly unlike our Dublin Bay
friends where hours are spent just getting to and from the starting
area! The club bar provides an excellent location for post race
analysis.
If
you would like further information on the club please visit the
CY&BC web site.
